S.A.I.L Method

Stop

Pause and Notice.

The first step is to interrupt the autopilot response. This is where we pause, take a breath, and notice what's happening inside - notice our body cues and nervous system states in the moment, without judgment.

Anchor

Come back to the body.

Use grounding tools to help the nervous system regain safety. This might look like deep breaths, sensory input, or a supportive mantra. Anchoring brings the brain back online.

Investigate

Name what’s going on.

With the body calmer, you can now identify what triggered you and what emotion or unmet need is present. This builds emotional literacy and helps reframe your experience.

Lead

Choose your next best action.

Once you're regulated and aware, you can respond intentionally - with self-leadership, empathy, and connection rather than reactivity. You're responding from your values and character, not your wounds or triggers.

Hi, I'm Aunt Sea

I used to think “difficult” kids were choosing to be difficult. Then I learned about the nervous system - and everything changed. I’m Aunt Sea: educator, author, emotional intelligence coach, and a calm-in-progress human on a mission to turn brain science into everyday magic.

What age group is the S.A.I.L.™ Method for?

While the tools are often introduced to kids as young as 3, the method isn’t age-restricted. I've worked with teens, parents, and even entire school staffs using the same brain-body framework. Emotional literacy is for every nervous system.

My child gets labeled as “defiant.” How would you approach that?
